Flutter workspace limit on Firebase Studio free tier - only 2 Flutter projects allowed?

Hi everyone,

I’m experiencing a confusing issue with Firebase Studio’s Flutter project limits on the free tier and hoping someone can clarify.

According to the official documentation, free tier users can create up to 10 projects total. I currently have only 3 projects in total:

  • 2 projects I own
  • 1 shared project I’m participating in

The issue: When I try to create a new project using other templates (like Go), it works fine. However, when I attempt to create a Flutter project, I get this error:

“You’ve reached the limit for Flutter workspaces or delete an existing Flutter workspace”

Current situation:

  • Total projects: 3/10 (well within the general limit)
  • Flutter projects I own: 2
  • Other project types work fine for creation

Questions:

  1. Is there a hidden limit of only 2 Flutter projects per free tier user?
  2. Why can I create other types of projects but not Flutter ones?
  3. Is this documented anywhere, or is it a bug?

This seems like an undocumented Flutter-specific limitation that contradicts the general 10-project limit mentioned in the docs.

Has anyone else encountered this? Any workarounds or explanations would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks!

Yes. There is a new limit on the number of Flutter projects that can be created due to a service outage.

Thank you for explaining! That makes perfect sense now. A few follow-up questions:

  1. Is this a temporary limitation while the service outage is being resolved?
  2. Do we have any ETA on when Flutter project creation might be restored to normal limits?
  3. Is there an official status page or announcement about this issue?

I appreciate the quick response!

@jamesor may be able to provide more details on the future of the Flutter/Android integration. I’d definitely keep an eye on the Firebase Status Dashboard in the meantime. Firebase Status Dashboard

Even though I don’t have a flutter workspace, I cannot create one. Have the limitation been changed?
