Enable “Ask AI” in a workspace created via Import Repo (Figma Make AI zip)?

Hi team,

I imported a ZIP that was exported from Figma Make AI into Firebase Studio using “Import repo” (i.e., I did NOT create a new project via “AI prototype”). As a result, my project only contains the UI and I don’t see any way to turn on the dedicated “Ask AI / AI prototype” chat UI for the workspace.

Question: Is there any way to enable the “Ask AI / AI prototype” UI in an imported repo without creating a brand-new AI Prototype project in Firebase Studio?

Context:

  • Source: Figma Make AI → exported ZIP → Firebase Studio “Import repo”
  • Goal: Keep my current UI (from Figma) but activate the Ask AI / AI prototype experience in this existing project.
  • I don’t know the correct migration path (or configuration) to bring a Figma-generated UI into Firebase AI so that the Ask AI interface is available.

If this is possible, could you please provide step-by-step instructions (or documentation) on:

  1. Enabling the Ask AI / AI prototype UI in an already-imported project, OR
  2. Migrating my existing imported repo into an AI Prototype setup without rebuilding everything from scratch.

The current (and only way) to access App Prototyping agent is by creating a new project via “Prototype with AI”.

What you can do in your situation is to start with “Prototype with AI“ (using any prompt) and replace any existing files with your files, as described (in Step 3) in this codelab:

Drag the files you downloaded into the Explorer pane of Firebase Studio. Allow the files to replace any existing files.

After the files are replaced, make a commit to save the current state of your workspace, then interact with the Prototyper (a.k.a. App Prototyping agent) in chat.
