Negative Experience with Gemini 2.5 Pro for Code Refactoring

When you open a new chat in the code view and use Gemini 2.5 Pro (with an API key), the code written by the built-in system tends to get destroyed rather than improved. Furthermore, there’s no restore function with 2.5 Pro. My experience has been that switching to 2.5 Pro to improve code is a negative one.

 Great news! Gemini 2.5 Pro is now the default model for Gemini in Firebase. API Key no longer needed. Read: Get the most out of Firebase Studio’s default built-in model, Gemini 2.5 Pro

@Fred sorry to learn about your prior experiences with Gemini in Firebase. Hopefully this update improves that experience.

I imported a local project from a zip file and once everything was loaded I asked it to refactor some code (rearrange the UI in a react app) and it said of course I can do that, and then stopped and did nothing..

Am I doing something wrong? I do have a 2.5 Pro API added to the AI Settings.

I’m having the exact same problem
