Gemini continuously forgets it can access, edit, analyze, or create files. It also fails to understand the implied instruction for it to analyze files to determine where, how and when to implement code.
Sad to hear about your experience. Can you tell me if this is happening in prototyper mode or within the code editor mode? If it’s code editor mode which Gemini model are you using?
Me too. This template generator creates a lot of errors that I think are unacceptable like missing import func, wrong logic code, Adding a lot of junk code to the code, it took me two days to fix this error step by step while run build the project.
Have you tried using Gemini 2.5 Pro? Its context window gives it an increased capacity to use tools.
I’m not sure changing the model is the solution. Nor does the mode in which it’s used change the outcome. I have to continuously remind Gemini, every so often, that it has the ability to read. There are times it’ll go on a coding spree and then the very next prompt it forgets everything it just did and asks me where to find the things it just created. It feels like Easter on an episode of Punk’d with Drew Barrymore from 50 First Dates. I don’t think it’s an isolated issue with Gemini only, Windsurf Cascade has, more or less, the same confusion at times. Perhaps it’s the something fundamental within models designed for these platforms?
