Firebase Studio is too slow sluggish

Dear team,

I have to be honest the idea of a tool like Firebase Studio is great, although I think you should really reconsider it’s performance.

The platform is way to slow to utilise as of right now. A user will never be able to use it commercially until the speed performance gets sorted out. I really hope the team is taking this into consideration, because I find it an amazing tool, although it can’t be really used properly these days.

The reason why I opened this topic, it’s to see if others are experiencing the same issues that I am experiencing such as:

  • Extremely long loading times
  • App crashing
  • Taking ages to switch from prototype to code platform.

Please let me know if this is the case for you too, if it’s not the case for you, I will contact support to try and sort this out for myself.

Thank you

Hi @desk888 - this is good feedback. We are actively working on making the product snappier, so your input here will be very helpful

What is your internet speed? What browser are you using? What other similar tools have you used whose speed you find more desirable?

Thanks,
Kirupa

I have to agree but i am learning to work with it. I figured it might be my location, a little spit farming town in Mexico, not the city slicker, high speed tech hub of the world. been waiting a good 5 minutes to get past the setting up workspace initialization. Internet speed:
Descarga Mbps
50.73
Subida Mbps
19.01

@kirupa Same here. Good platform. But the prototyper AI is just freaking too slow at times. I have seen it go both at rocket speed and snails pace. But recently for the past 2 days, its been extremely slow. My location is Brazil.
Today, I noticed the code platform Gemini did not show up at all for the majority of the day. Its extremely slow with opening files.
I dont think its my internet connectivity, as I can access the internet fairly well.

Its really bad.

Wasted all day on it

same here! my internet is like 500mbps, it’s been 5 minutes working and 15 hours loading the project.. and when it’s working, jesus so slow you want to smash your computer lol

I have been experimenting with it for the past week. It’s not just slow, it hangs, requires constant resets and while it’s “thinking” you never know what’s really happening but usually it just hangs and after a couple hours waiting, reset. Just to go back to the same situation. I find Firebase Studio, in comparison with plenty of other similar platforms, very professional and accurate. When it does work, it can build incredible stuff (visuals a bit lower tier than some others, rest is amazing). I wouldn’t mind paying (like I do on other platforms) for more performance and reliability, that’s for sure. At least a less populated platform that give resources more efficiently. Has the performance issues been addressed already and this is it or, this is being looked at and improvements are on the way?!

it’s become a dud. even it knows.

I agree.
The first 2 days when I used firebase prototyper mode is fast and the result was really fascinating.
After 2 days, it became super slow and I have to reset the vm over and over.

Having exact the same experience over here

It is a beta guys. I am confident, that they will improve.

But I agree that you cannot use it from commercial pov yet. Performance must be improved. But for know, for hobby vibe coder it’s nice and free

I have the exact same problem, think I will leave it and go back to vs code

Same… it’s frustratingly slow, right now

Yeah having all the same problems as you guys too. Using Chrome with 600Mbps here so its not the internet. At first i thought perhaps the context is too long or the free tokens depleted or maybe its just filled with heavy traffic. This is my first time vibe coding or real coding after attending some online classes. Problem is you really need the context yeah?

I noticed if you keep shifting the model from built in to 2.5 sometimes things get moving again. Hydration issues were crazy but i managed to get the AI to solve them one by one but i had to do them one by one and not let it solve from the gemmni shortcut. I literally had to copy all the errors lines and code context before and after so i think thats why the AI keeps messing up the corrections is because it is sometimes not able to go back to earlier context.

i might be saying the wrong thing here sorry just sharing my frustration, but Its a new experience and I am actually learning while doing so GOOGLE pls keep updating and doing great work and pls keep pushing out updates and fixes for Firebase Studio. Can;t wait to get my MVP out.

FYI/A my project can’t move now, the AI dosent want to correct or help with any coding.

Similar issues right now too, had to reset the project twice after the chat thread died mid update, still got a spinning wheel of doom, while nothing else happens.

So what is the solution for administrators? Will users continue to go crazy and waste their time? You need to talk urgently and tell users to calm down, that you are aware of the problem and are trying to solve it!

So i got mine back up and running when i changed my plan from the free trial credits tier to the paid plan. But it said that it will use the free credits first. When i signed up for Firebase and when i started they gave me USD300 trial credits. Not sure if this was it but after i did that i got access and speed back, but i feel like it wasn’t as intuitive as before lol. But at least it’s working again. Now it asks me to make manual changes as well. (it didn’t before). Don’t hate if this sounds very noobie, literally my first time coding beyond AI prompt classes. Coding out of necessity to save money building a prototype MVP for my own business.

Same here. Very slow, keeps freezing. Even simple question like “hello” produces a very slow response… Location Jakarta, Indonesia

There is another thread here on this… and yes its been rather useable since the last few days. I’m actually using Grok and by the time I’ve explained a lot more details then I would of had to otherwise, I get a response and I’m still waiting for my prompt to be acknowledged haha
